Perhaps the oldest refridgerator invented for hot climates after the Ice age. This is very cool and it really works!!
In a hot country like Yemen and before electricity was discovered they used this to cool their water (and other drinks maybe?) .. it could probably be used for other things as well.
There are a few of these "cooling windows" set up around all wings and levels of the castle known as Dar al hajar, the home of the Imam (ruler) of Yemen, it's a beautiful palace that sits on the top of a large rock in the middle of Wadi Dhahr, the valley of Dhahr.
When I toured the place I stuck my hand out of the window and the air was so cool that no doubt the water would remain pleasant at all times.
